If they are removable, cushions that can easily be replaced if they are damaged.

Regular testing: You don't want to find out that a high-buoyancy cushion has a problem when an emergency arises, so it would be best to check their suitability on regular occasions. Throw 'em in the water and see if they float!

Real security: Floating cushions can provide an extra level of security, but they are no substitute for life vests and other emergency apparatuses. A viable floating boat seat does not eliminate the need to have real life vests onboard a boat.
